(1960s)-FM Silver Medal Aquarius Signs of the Zodiac
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This sterling silver medal from the Franklin Mint's Signs of the Zodiac series depicts Aquarius, the Water Bearer. In astrological tradition, Aquarius governs those born between January 20 and February 18 and is associated with independence, humanitarianism, and progressive thinking. The Franklin Mint's Zodiac series, produced during the 1960s, featured high-relief interpretations of each zodiacal sign rendered in sterling silver by skilled medallic sculptors. The classical Aquarius figure — a youth pouring water from an urn — draws on imagery dating to ancient Mesopotamia where the constellation was associated with the god Ea and the annual flooding of rivers. The FM prefix and AR designation identify this as a Franklin Mint sterling silver product. The Zodiac series was marketed through the Franklin Mint's subscription program, where collectors could acquire one sign per month to complete the twelve-sign set.
