Description
Obverse Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. The obverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDO-004. A short die scratch north from the left upper-side of the second T of TRUST. Medium die chip on right center of the ear. Strongest doubling appears on this stage. Obverse Stage B: NNW/SSE die scratches to the left of the 9 in the date. Obverse Stage C: Stage markers are gone. Three slightly diagonal die scratches south of the L in LIBERTY. Very short die gouge east of the upper loop of the B in LIBERTY. Doubling on the neck and bust is abraded away. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse is also an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 10¢ WRPM-008. It is an S/S North. NW/SE die scratch through the right center of the E in DIME. Series of N/S, slightly slanted, die scratches and a die chip above the second U of PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: Weaker Stage A markers. Small die gouge east from the center of the E in STATES. Reverse Stage C: Stage A markers are gone except one very faint scratch from the left top of the second U of PLURIBUS. Die chips on the left-hand side lower olive leaves.
