Description
The 1946 Jefferson Nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 161.1 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 73% of the year's production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. First post-war year, returning to standard copper-nickel composition. Pre-war mintmark placement on the reverse resumed. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding.
