Description
=1923-D VAM-1R Retained Die Break Left of Y= Discovered by David Close. Revised 2008, 2014 1R (revised) II 1 · B2a (Retained Die Break Left of Y, Die Chip AM, Break Below A) I-3 R-6 Obverse II 1– Heavy die crack thru Y in LIBERTY parallel to rim with sloping triangular retained die break on left side of Y. Reverse B2a– Heavy die crack thru AMERICA with small die chip between A and M. Late die states show long die crack thru TED over to eagle's head with wider break at rim above T. Later die state has slight displaced field break and chip below right A in AMERICA. Comments: 1. This variety has been dubbed as a Late Die State of the 1923-D VAM-1AM. The break on the obverse is the deciding factor as to which VAM you have.
