=1921-D VAM-5D Tripled Date and Stars, Rusted Die on Face= Discovered by Michael Ash, August 2006. Revised 2009 5D (revised) IV 4 · D2a (Tripled Date and Stars, Rusted Die on Face) (189) Obverse IV 4– Raised dots and splotches on Liberty head face from rusted die. Reverse D2a– Start of die break at bottom inside of lower loop of second S in STATES, with tiny die chip at bottom inside of upper loop. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg and between eagle's left wing and body. ''Die marker'' - Vertical fine die scratch thru upper loop os right S in STATES up to rim. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This is a "Bean Bottom S" variety. Click on the Bean Bottom S VAMworld page for links to the other bean bottom VAMs. # As of December 2015, there may be only 3 of these known (at least known to the author of this paragraph), the discovery coin (ANACS 58) and another that was the new 1921-D VAM-1DF2 for a short while before elimination as same as VAM-5D.
