Description
=1921-D VAM-5 Tripled Date and Stars= Discovered by Jeff Oxman, March 1985. 5(revised) IV 4 D2a (Tripled Date and Stars) (189) Obverse IV 4 - Date digits tripled below serifs & loops towards rim. All left stars tripled & all right stars slightly tripled towards rim. Lower edge of jaw slightly tripled & doubled. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The 1921-D VAM-5 and its suffixes are a confusing bunch at this time to distinguish and attribute. The bean bottom feature on 1921-D Morgans is also under investigation. Please also note that at least one ANACS attributed VAM-5 coin, which matches the written description of a 21-D VAM-5, is a 1921-D VAM-1ES. Bottom line: there may presently be a number of dies that would qualify as "VAM-5" just by following the written description.
