Description

=1921-D VAM-1Z No E in WE= Discovered by Rob Joyce, June 2002 (Desirability: image:star4.gif) 1Z IV 1 D2a (No e in We) (189) Reverse D2a - Die fill in e of We to make it almost completely missing. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The VAM-1Z is a filled die variety similar to VAM-1A. In this variety, the E of We is almost completely filled, making the letter almost completely invisible. Another “No E in We” coin has been discovered in VAM-1B2, which can be differentiated because VAM-1B2 also includes a semi-circle die break over the R in AMERICA. Be sure to look for the distinguishing R die break on any missing E coin found. # Note that VAM-1BD (JOH-20) can come with a weak E, but is not a VAM-1Z (they have a gouge in the wreath above A in dollar). The EDS discovery coin of this VAM has no die cracks visible. # 1921-D VAM-1AY is also known with a weak E in We. The scribble scratches seem to be similar to VAM 1Z, but are not likely an exact match. # Be aware that examples of VAM 1Z DO exist in which the E is not filled, so focus on the scribbles to make an accurate attribution. # Appears that 1921-D VAM-1BQ and 1921-D VAM-1Z are the same die pair.
