Fey, Ph.D., October 1999, Revised 2018 1I1 (revised) IV 1 D2a (Die Break N, Scribbling Die Scratches #61) (189) Reverse D2a - Die chip at top left of N of UNITED. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg & between eagle’s left wing & body. ''Die marker -'' Diagonal die scratch thru left two upper tail feathers. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The die break on the VAM-1I caused a small chunk of metal to fall from the die at the top left of the N in UNITED. The raised metal on coins struck from the broken die is very visible for easy attribution even without a magnifier.
