Description
The 1916 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent is a cent produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. The U.S. Mint produced 36.0 million examples, making this ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 19% of production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $154 depending on grade and condition.
