Description
Part of the Barber Half Dollars 1892-1915 series, the 1904 (S) Barber Half Dollar is a half dollar from the San Francisco Mint. With a mintage of 553,038, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 12% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1904-S with a mintage of 553,038 is a notable semi-key date for the series. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage.
