Description
The 1901 (O) Barber Dime is a dime produced at the New Orleans Mint as part of the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. With a mintage of 5.6 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 22% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. The 1901-S is a scarce San Francisco issue. Struck at the New Orleans Mint, which operated from 1838 to 1909 and produced coins prized for their historical Southern provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $16 to $1.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4825.
