Description

The 1895 (S) Barber Dime is a dime produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. With a mintage of 1.1 million, this is a scarce issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 50% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. The 1895-O is a key date with limited New Orleans Mint production. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $61 to $1.3K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4808.
