=1878-S VAM-69 Engraved Wing Feather= 69 II 58 · B2ar (Engraved Wing Feather) (184) Reverse B2ar– Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg with vertical engraving lines in that area. R in Trust broken. Small III S mint mark in normal position with slight tilt to right. Slightly doubled UNITED S-TE towards rim. Also used for VAM 102. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: 124, 69 :Reverse: Comments: # The vertical engraving lines 'pop' off in the area outlined by the four arrows. The area is far more pronounced than is demonstrated in the photograph. # 1878-S VAM 124 and 1878-S VAM 69 share the same obverse. # Obverse shows die cracks across the chin that are not seen on the VAM 124 obverse picture indicating that VAM 69 is a later die pairing. # Late die stage of reverse has further deterioration of the r in Trust. The G in God is broken at the top. A die scratch starts between the Eagle’s neck & right wing that runs up ‘under’ the beak, ‘under’ the o in God, then to the bottom of the second T in STATES. # MM set slightly high, slight tilt right.
