=1878-S VAM-43 Engraved Wing Feather= Discovered by Martin Field, January 1980. Revised Sept. 2012 Revised to separate out die pairs, October 2023. 43 (revised) II 1 • B2r (Engraved Wing Feather) (185) Obverse II 1 - Raised polished areas inside loops of first 8 and wheat stalks with horizontal bar in 8 lower loop. Die chip on E of E. PLURIBUS. Later die stage has crack across lower hair. Reverse B2r - Extra feather engraved below eagle's right wing. Roughness on engraved wing feather and middle of wings over polished. Long vertical thread-like line at bottom of eagle's left wing. Die gouge or engraved line at top of eagle's right wing-body. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: 122, 43, 30 Comments: # Same reverse as VAM 24, VAM 30 & VAM 122. # R in TRUST not broken. # Former VAM 43.2 # Former VAM 43.1 now VAM 122
