=1878-S VAM-42A Doubled L-R-BU, Engraved Wing Feather, Clashed N & ST = Discovered April 20, 2010 by Jason Henrichsen Revised 2016 42A (revised) II2 20 • B2ac (Doubled L-R-BU, Engraved Wing Feather, Clashed n & st) (184) Obverse II2 20 - Clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck and partial incuse st of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Later die state has fine vertical polishing lines in field at neck and back of cap ribbon that erases clashed n. Reverse B2ac - Fine vertical polishing lines at top and right fields and later on left field to erase die clash marks. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The VAM-42A is the first letter clashed 78-S, with a strong partial incuse from "st" of "trust" showing in the hair vee. # There is a group of small gouges between and around the DO in DOLLAR seen on some specimens.
