DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # VAM-39 features well over a dozen die chips on Liberty's head. # The exact same reverse die produced the 1878-S VAM-39 and the 1878-S VAM-99. There may well be a difference in die stage though. # Some 1878-S VAM-39 reverses show signs of having been clashed.
