Description

The 1875 (S) Trade Dollar is a dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Trade Dollars 1873-1885 series. The U.S. Mint produced 4.5 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 42% of production. The obverse features Liberty seated facing left, holding an olive branch extended to the viewer, with a sheaf of wheat behind and the reverse displays an eagle perched on a bale of goods, with an olive branch and three arrows. The 1875-S saw massive production of over 4.4 million for export to Asia. The 1875 Philadelphia issue is the scarcest regular Philadelphia date. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $487 to $19K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 27.2 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7039.
