1872 Proof Half Dime Pattern - J-1191
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Featuring the Seated Liberty obverse and wreath reverse, J-1191 was struck in the standard silver alloy as one of the final half dime patterns before the denomination's abolition. The half dime had been part of the American coinage system since 1794, making these 1872 patterns among the last designs explored for a denomination with nearly eight decades of continuous history. The Coinage Act of 1873 would replace the half dime with the five-cent nickel.
