1870 HK-13, Pilgrim Jubilee So-Called Dollar

Description

The landing of the Pilgrims fills the obverse of HK-13, under "Pilgrim Jubilee Memorial" and above the dates 1620 and 1870. Two microscopic signatures flank the second date, "J. E. Ellis F" at the left and "A. C. Warren" at the right; both men belonged to the Pilgrim Society, and Hibler and Kappen think Warren probably designed the medal and Jarvis E. Ellis engraved it. The reverse has a Bible inside a wreath with a bird above it, the motto "Whose Faith Follow," and Ellis's initials in tiny letters below. Scovill Manufacturing Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut, struck the medals, and copies were given to officials and guests at the Plymouth celebration of December 21, 1870, the 250th anniversary of the landing. HK-13 is silver-plated and 37 mm across.
