Description

This 1869 iron token, cataloged as Fuld 692A-2n, is a Yankee Robinson piece with full brockage reverse struck in iron, one of the most unusual compositions for American tokens. Iron tokens are extremely uncommon due to the metal's tendency to rust and corrode, making surviving examples in any grade quite scarce. The "n" suffix denotes the iron composition, and like the tin brockage (692A-2m), this piece features the obverse design impressed into the reverse in incuse form. The use of iron may reflect either experimentation with available metals or a deliberate effort to create maximum variety for the collector market. Iron's magnetic property also distinguishes these pieces from all other metals used in the Robinson series, adding a physical characteristic that collectors can verify. Well-preserved iron tokens are among the most sought-after pieces in any Civil War-era token series.

Rarity Notes

Iron, Fuld 692A-2n. Full brockage reverse. Iron composition is extremely unusual. Very scarce to rare.
