Description
A second proof two-cent pattern for 1869, continuing the experimental program for a denomination whose commercial relevance had largely evaporated. The shield obverse with crossed arrows and olive branch still carried the IN GOD WE TRUST motto that had made the two-cent piece historically significant, and these late-era patterns preserve that design in its mature form. J-673 features distinguishing characteristics from J-672 that may reflect alternative finishing techniques or compositional experiments applied to the dying denomination.
