1866 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-532
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Second to last in the 1866 Shield Nickel alloy sequence, J-532 represents one of the final compositions tested before the program concluded with J-533. The extreme rarity of these terminal varieties makes them among the most sought-after individual pieces in the Shield Nickel pattern series. Fewer than a dozen examples of most varieties in the J-530 range survive, and some may exist as singletons or near-unique specimens. For the collector fortunate enough to acquire one, J-532 represents both a scarce numismatic prize and a tangible connection to the closing chapter of one of the Mint's most ambitious experimental programs.
