Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Civil War token cataloged as Fuld 131, featuring obverse die 131 — a portrait of Abraham Lincoln — with a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln tokens are among the most sought-after Civil War issues. Abraham Lincoln obverse dies are among the most valuable in the Civil War token series. Lincoln tokens command significant premiums for their combined political, historical, and numismatic significance. Cataloged under "Location Unknown" in the Fuld reference because the die combination carries no merchant or geographic attribution. Produced in brass, an alloy that took die impressions sharply and resisted corrosion well. Brass tokens survive in excellent condition more frequently than copper counterparts. Dated 1864, the final year of Civil War token production before Congress banned private coinage in April.
Rarity Notes
Copper strikings are generally the most common metal variant for Civil War store cards, as copper was the standard planchet material mimicking the federal cent. With 2 cataloged varieties, /Brockage Abraham Lincoln was a limited producer of Civil War tokens.
