Description
The 1835 Capped Bust Quarter, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Capped Bust Quarters 1815-1838 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 2.0 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Minted during the age of Jacksonian democracy and the rise of the common man, as new branch mints opened in Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $135 to $5.0K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 6.74 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5354.
