Description
The 1828 Classic Head Half Cent - 13 Stars is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. The U.S. Mint produced 606,000 examples, making this ranked 4th of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 32% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Multiple die varieties including the 13 Stars and 12 Stars varieties. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $100 to $721 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1147.
