The 1827 Capped Bust Quarter - Original Curl 2 is part of the Capped Bust Quarters 1815-1838 series. With a mintage of 4,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 99% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1827 Original is one of the most debated coins in U.S. numismatics — some researchers believe all known examples are actually restrikes produced years later. Regardless of origin, all are rare.
