Description

The 1820 Capped Bust Quarter - Medium 0 is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Capped Bust Quarters 1815-1838 series. With a mintage of 127,444, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Several Browning die varieties exist. Quarter production remained modest compared to the half dollar. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $166 to $12K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 6.74 grams, 27.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #515284.
