Description
The 1808 Draped Bust Half Cent - 1808/7 represents a Philadelphia Mint issue from the Draped Bust Half Cents 1800-1808 series. With a mintage of 400,000, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing right with draped bust and ribbon-bound hair, designed after a Gilbert Stuart portrait and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Final year of the Draped Bust Half Cent. No half cents were struck from 1812-1824. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $123 to $1.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1110.
