About This Coin
The 1800 Draped Bust Half Cent is a United States cent from the Draped Bust Half Cents 1800-1808 series. The obverse features Liberty facing right with draped bust and ribbon-bound hair, designed after a Gilbert Stuart portrait, while the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Designed by Robert Scot. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The Draped Bust Half Cent continued the denomination through the early Republic era. Production was intermittent, with no half cents struck from 1802-1808. The 1802 is a famous rarity. The entire Draped Bust half cent series is scarce and collected primarily by type.
