Description

This token predates the traditional Hard Times era (1832–1844) but is included in the Rulau catalog as part of the broader spectrum of American merchant and advertising tokens from the early nineteenth century. The HT-500 series encompasses pieces from the 1800–1820s period that share characteristics with later Hard Times tokens but were produced before the Panic of 1837 created the urgent demand for emergency coinage.
