Description

Betts-444 in silver is the premium version of the Peace of Paris medal, struck in precious metal for officials, diplomats, and distinguished collectors. The Treaty of Paris of 1763 was negotiated primarily by the Duke of Bedford for Britain and the Duc de Choiseul for France, and silver presentation medals would have been exchanged among the principal diplomats as souvenirs of the negotiations. The silver medal preserves the peace design with the enhanced visual quality that precious metal provides. The Peace of Paris represented both an end and a beginning in American history -- it concluded the colonial wars between Britain and France but created the conditions for the American Revolution by removing the French threat that had kept the colonies dependent on the mother country. Silver Peace of Paris medals are among the most historically significant items in the Betts catalog for their connection to this pivotal moment.

Rarity Notes
