Description
This Washington Success medal in the large size with plain edge and silvered finish is one of the most collected early American tokens. The Washington Success medals, produced circa 1790s, feature a bust of George Washington on the obverse and the inscription "SUCCESS TO THE UNITED STATES" on the reverse. The plain edge variant distinguishes this from the reeded edge version (PCGS #788). These medals were among the earliest commercially produced Washington commemoratives, created to capitalize on Washington's enormous popularity during and after his presidency. Bronze medals have served as the workhorse composition for American commemoratives, providing a durable and affordable medium that allowed broad distribution while maintaining the artistic quality of the original designs. The silvered finish — silver plating over a copper or bronze base — provided an attractive appearance suitable for presentation or display.
Rarity Notes
