Description

This undated brass token, cataloged as TC-626458, is a "Good Luck" token of the type produced in enormous quantities throughout the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Good luck tokens featuring horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, wishbones, and other superstitious symbols were among the most widely distributed advertising and novelty tokens in American history. Businesses gave them away as promotional items, and they were sold as pocket pieces at novelty shops and vending machines. Despite their ubiquity, good luck tokens represent an interesting facet of American folk culture, reflecting persistent superstitious beliefs in an increasingly rationalist society. The brass composition gave these tokens an attractive golden color and sufficient weight to feel substantial in the pocket, fulfilling their role as tactile comfort objects and lucky charms.

Rarity Notes
