(No Date) Token HT-155A, Attleboro MA
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This undated token from Attleboro, Massachusetts is a variant in the Robinson series, lacking the specific date found on the standard HT-155 issue. The Robinson family — Roswell and William Robinson — were central figures in Attleboro's metalworking industry, producing buttons, jewelry findings, and other small metal goods in the workshops that established the town as America's costume jewelry capital. The absence of a date on this variant may indicate production from a die deliberately left undated for extended use, or it may reflect a different die configuration from the dated varieties. Undated variants in merchant token series sometimes represent later production runs made after the original dated dies had been retired or worn out. The Robinson tokens, spanning both "Robinson's Jones & Co." and "R. & W. Robinson" firm names, form one of the most extensive manufacturer-issued token groups from the Attleboro district. Together with the Schenck, Richards, and other Attleboro issues, the Robinson tokens document a manufacturing community at the beginning of its century-long dominance of American jewelry production.
