Description

This copper token, cataloged as TC-55292, is a second variety issued by Dunlap & Florer of Oklahoma Territory. Unlike the brass trade token (TC-18998) from the same firm, this copper piece may represent a different denomination or period of issue. Dunlap & Florer operated during the period when Oklahoma was still officially Indian Territory, before the Land Run of 1889 opened the Unassigned Lands to non-Native settlement. Merchants in Indian Territory operated under unique legal and economic conditions, trading with both Native American communities and the growing population of non-Native settlers, soldiers, and traders. The copper composition and different catalog number suggest this token served a distinct commercial function from the brass version, representing a different face value or being produced at a different time during the firm's operation.

Rarity Notes

Copper, TC-55292. Second Dunlap & Florer variety. Oklahoma Territory tokens are uncommon.
