Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This bronze medal at 76mm diameter from 2009 commemorates the New Frontier, honoring the legacy of President John F. Kennedy's vision for American progress. Kennedy coined the phrase "New Frontier" in his acceptance speech at the 1960 Democratic National Convention, using it to describe the challenges and opportunities facing the nation in the 1960s — including space exploration, civil rights, economic growth, and international engagement. The 76mm bronze format is the standard large-format commemorative medal size used by the U.S. Mint for its most significant issues. The New Frontier program medal was authorized to honor Kennedy's contributions to American life and his vision of a future defined by scientific achievement, social justice, and public service. The 2009 production date may correspond to the approximately 46th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination or another programmatic milestone in the New Frontier medal series.
Rarity Notes
Scarce. U.S. Mint 76mm bronze medal. The New Frontier series honors Kennedy's legacy in the standard large-format commemorative medal program.
