The U.S. Mint produced special Bicentennial designs for the quarter, half dollar, and dollar coins, while also striking numerous commemorative medals for various bicentennial-related organizations and events. The celebrations included Operation Sail, a gathering of tall ships in New York Harbor on July 4, 1976, and the Freedom Train, a traveling exhibition of American historical documents and artifacts.
