Description

This 1967-P large medal commemorates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the United States Naval Construction Battalions, universally known as the Seabees. Established in 1942 during World War II, the Seabees — a play on the initials "CB" for Construction Battalion — built airstrips, bridges, roads, and other military infrastructure in combat zones across the Pacific and European theaters. Their motto "Construimus, Batuimus" (We Build, We Fight) reflects their dual role as builders and combat-capable troops. The "P" mint mark indicates Philadelphia Mint production, and the large format indicates this is the premium size version. The production of commemorative medals in America spans from colonial-era pieces struck in European workshops to modern issues produced with twenty-first century digital design technology and advanced minting equipment. The 1967 silver anniversary honored twenty-five years of Seabee service including contributions in the ongoing Vietnam War.
