(1953) Medal Medallic Art Co. NY Bronze Eisenhower Inauguration

Coin Details
Description
This bronze medal commemorates the inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower as the thirty-fourth President of the United States on January 20, 1953. Produced by Medallic Art Company of New York, it captures the transition from twenty years of Democratic administration to the immensely popular World War II Supreme Allied Commander who won the 1952 election in a landslide against Adlai Stevenson. Eisenhower's inauguration drew enormous public enthusiasm, with Americans celebrating both the war hero and the promise of steady, experienced leadership during the early Cold War era. The obverse presents Eisenhower's portrait with the naturalistic detail and high-relief modeling that were hallmarks of Medallic Art Company's sculptural approach. The bronze medal carries the warmth and visual depth characteristic of MACO's best work during this period, when the firm was operating at the peak of its artistic and technical capabilities under the leadership of Clyde Trees. Presidential inaugural medals from Medallic Art Company were sold to the public through numismatic dealers and directly from the company, serving both as collectible souvenirs and as examples of the medal-maker's art. This piece stands alongside the official U.S. Mint inaugural medal as a parallel private-sector tribute to the peaceful transfer of power.
Rarity Notes
