Description
This bronze medal at 33mm diameter honors President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, produced circa 1938 by the United States Mint during FDR's second term. By 1938, Roosevelt had won a landslide reelection in 1936 but was facing increasing opposition to the New Deal, including the controversial court-packing plan and a sharp economic recession in 1937-1938. The 33mm bronze format is the standard U.S. Mint presidential medal size. This later FDR medal may feature a different portrait or design compared to the circa 1934 version (PCGS #816125), as the Mint sometimes updated presidential medal designs during long tenures. Roosevelt remains one of the most consequential presidents in American history, and his medals are widely collected. The U.S. Mint's FDR medal series documents the visual representation of a president whose twelve-year tenure spanned the Depression, the New Deal, and the approach of World War II.
Rarity Notes
