Description

This bronze medal at 33mm diameter honors President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, produced circa 1938 by the United States Mint during FDR's second term. By 1938, Roosevelt had won a landslide reelection in 1936 but was facing increasing opposition to the New Deal, including the controversial court-packing plan and a sharp economic recession in 1937-1938. The 33mm bronze format is the standard U.S. Mint presidential medal size. This later FDR medal may feature a different portrait or design compared to the circa 1934 version (PCGS #816125), as the Mint sometimes updated presidential medal designs during long tenures.
