Description
The 1934 (S) Walking Liberty Half Dollar is a half dollar from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the Walking Liberty Half Dollars 1916-1947 series. With a mintage of 3.7 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 28% of production. The obverse features Liberty striding confidently toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag, carrying branches of laurel and oak symbolizing civil and military glory and the reverse displays an eagle perched on a mountain crag with wings partially unfurled, a sapling of mountain pine growing beside it. Mintages rebounded somewhat after the depths of the Depression. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage.
