Description

Discovery December 2022 IV 1 • D2a (Gouge through L (Zerbe Special Strike)) (?) Obverse IV 1 - Die polishing noticeable in LIBERTY, with distinctive marks in the top left serif of the E and the middle of the top of the R. Other die polishing lines in cotton bolls, around BU of PLURIBUS, N of UNUM, and lower hair. Diagonal polishing line through top of second 1 and around 19. Stars slightly doubled toward rim. Reverse D2a - Horizontal, raised gouge through first L in DOLLAR. Die scratch from serif of C in AMERICA to rim. Diagonal scratch through R in DOLLAR. Radial die scratch from wing to rim left of A in AMERICA. Left two upper tail feathers weak. Fine scribbling scratches in overpolished areas around eagle's right leg. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Supposedly 24 of these were specially struck for Farran Zerbe.
