1921-P VAM-45 Doubled Profile, Tripled Stars, Scribbling Die Scratches Discovered by Bill Van Note, September 2004. Revised 2009, 2016. '''45 ('''revised''') IV 35 D2a (Doubled Profile, Tripled Stars, Scribbling Die Scratches) (189) ''' '''Obverse IV 35 –''' Slightly doubled/ tripled profile ifrom front of LIBERTY band down to chin. Very slightly tripled left and right stars. Slightly doubled Phrygian cap top and BUS of PLURIBUS towards rim. '' Die marker -'' Polishing lines in RT of LIBERTY. '''Reverse D2a –''' Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg and between eagle's left wing and body. ''Die marker'' – Horizontal polishing line on third outside feather from bottom of eagle's right wing. Same Reverse die as VAM-44 Infrequently reeded. '''DPIS''' – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments: # Same obverse and reverse dies as VAM-44 Infrequently Reeded. # Note: Occurs with rotated reverse of 45 degrees CCW. # Edge Has 189 reeds instead of I.R. 157 of VAM 44. # Leroy's photos below are not of the VAM 45 discovery coin. VAMs 44 and 45 were discovered very close together and were inspected only to verify the reverse was a match and the rims had different reed counts. Pictures of the obverse were not taken at that time. The two discovery coins may not have been inspected side-by-side, or it would have been seen that the obverse of the VAM 45 discovery coin was different. It is now cataloged as VAM 101, even though it is legitimately the discovery piece for VAM 45.
