1909 Medal King-310 Bronze Lincoln-Emancipation
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1909 bronze medal, cataloged as King-310, honors Abraham Lincoln in connection with emancipation. The 1909 centennial of Lincoln's birth (February 12, 1809) generated enormous commemorative production, including the Lincoln Cent — the first American coin to bear a real person's portrait. King-310 is one of many Lincoln emancipation medals in Robert King's comprehensive catalog. The emancipation theme connects Lincoln's centennial to his greatest achievement, and bronze medals were the most widely distributed format for centennial commemoratives. Private medal producers including the Franklin Mint, Medallic Art Company, and numerous smaller firms have supplemented U.S. Mint production, creating a rich and diverse medallic landscape for American collectors. Lincoln's centennial was one of the most widely celebrated anniversaries in American history.
