Description
The 1905 Liberty Head Nickel is a nickel minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Liberty Head Nickels 1883-1912 series. The U.S. Mint produced 29.8 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a Roman numeral V (five) within a wreath of corn, cotton, and wheat. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $3 to $154 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #3866.
