1904 So-Called Dollar HK-313, Cascade Gardens
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The Louisiana Purchase is acted out on the obverse of HK-313: Uncle Sam takes the territory from a young woman who seems to stand for France, under a ribbon reading "Vive La Republique," with 1803 and 1903 in wreaths at the upper corners and busts of Bonaparte and Jefferson at the lower ones. "Louisiana Purchase Exposition" arches across the top in large letters and "1803 St. Louis 1904" fills the bottom. The reverse shifts to the fairgrounds, showing gardens and a tower with a building behind them, captioned "Worlds Fair St. Louis" and, in small letters, "Cascade Gardens." The design comes in reeded brass, this piece, and in gilt with a plain edge (HK-313a). Brass, 38 mm.
