Description

For the 125th anniversary of the army's departure from Valley Forge in 1903, this white metal medal shows the headquarters building on the obverse under "125th Anniversary," with "Valley Forge headquarters" on a ribbon below and the dates 1778-1903 beneath that. The reverse is a bust of George Washington facing front in high relief, with his name above and 1778 at the left and Valley Forge at the right. HK-132 is white metal, 38 mm, listed by Baker as L-195; a bronze striking is HK-132a. The anniversary looked back to June 19, 1778, when the Continental Army marched out of the camp it had held through the winter of 1777-1778. Today the site is a national historical park of 3,500 acres where Washington's Headquarters, soldiers' huts and redoubts are preserved, along with later memorials.
