Description

Thirty-six states and 22 foreign countries took part in the Cotton States and International Exposition at Atlanta in 1895, and Costa Rica put up a building of its own, as did Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, California and most of the Southern states. The Woman's Building, another of the exposition palaces, is the subject of the reverse of HK-271, with the exposition name around it and the S. D. Childs & Co. Chicago signature in tiny letters below. The obverse repeats the series' phoenix, its wings reaching past the inner circle. President Grover Cleveland set the fair in motion by pressing a button at Gray Gables in Massachusetts. HK-271 is aluminum, 38 mm; HK-271a is the brass striking.
