With a mintage of 300,000, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 20% of production. The 1893-S with a mintage of 100,000 is the key regular-issue date of the entire series. Struck at the New Orleans Mint, which operated from 1838 to 1909 and produced coins prized for their historical Southern provenance.
