Description

The Art Palace and the Agricultural Building, two of the fair's exhibition halls, take one face each on HK-185a, with no portrait of Columbus. The Art Palace side, from HK-184, lists the building at 320 by 500 feet and 670,000 dollars; the Agricultural side, from HK-196, gives 500 by 800 feet and a cost of 618,000. Hibler and Kappen list three strikings of the combination: this aluminum one with a reeded edge, 35 mm, catalogued as Eglit 123; a brass one, HK-185b; and a silver-plated brass one with a plain edge, HK-185c. The Art Palace is the only building of the fair still standing, now the Museum of Science and Industry. The exposition opened in 1893 after its dedication in October 1892, and this page is the aluminum piece.
